The Cody Cupboard is a nonprofit food bank that provides temporary food assistance to those in need. The cupboard serves as a supplemental resource for people who are having financial difficulty or the burden of unexpected expenses. The cupboard operates on a referral system in conjunction with the Department of Family Services, Yellowstone Behavioral Health, Hope House, Crisis Intervention Services, Park County Public Health, local churches, police, etc. Generally, individuals or families contact us through the referring agency, however, it is the cupboard’s policy to provide food to everyone who requests food, regardless of referral. Donors may contact the cupboard by phone, and the cupboard is funded mainly through local donations, though grants provide occasional assistance.

The Cent$ible Nutrition Program offers cooking lessons for those on a limited income. These lessons help participants to shop smarter at the grocery store and to promote cooking from scratch. This program is grant funded by the SNAP program through the United States Department of Agriculture. Funded by two federal grants, Cent$ible Nutrition provides education opportunities for Wyoming families and individuals with limited resources, with an aim of helping families eat better for less.

Cent$ible Nutrition targets adults living in rural or urban areas who are responsible for planning and preparing family meals, with an emphasis on households with young children. Youth served may be children of eligible participants or students in schools with at least 50 percent of the student body enrolled in the free/reduced lunch program.

Classes for individuals or groups are provided based on income guidelines. They enable participant to develop new skills and gain knowledge to:

1) Improve nutrition and physical wellbeing of the family

2) Increase knowledge of the essentials of human nutrition and physical activity

3) Increase the ability to select and buy food that satisfies nutritional needs

4) Improve skills in food production, preparation, storage, safety, sanitation and meal-time practices

5) Increase the ability to manage food budgets and related resources and benefits
